Central Institute of Psychiatry

The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is a Government of India institution and only one of its kinds in eastern India. The British established this hospital on 17th May 1918 with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. It had then a capacity of 174 patients (92 male and 82 female).

Ranchi University

Ranchi University came into existence on the 12th of July, 1960 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university with headquarters at Ranchi. Today it has jurisdiction over the districts of Ranchi, Palamu, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Gumla, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, Simdega and Seraikela-Kharswan. Right from its inception, Ranchi University has been alive to the ever increasing demands of higher education, particularly in an area once known as the tribal hinterland of erstwhile united Bihar.
